Be a Sunbeam

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and my Uncle Eddie may be with the Lord now, but he was so much fun to be around! I sure loved palling around with him when our families would go camping together. He was always smiling, joking, wrestling with us kids. And as long as I can remember, he always sang “You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy when skies are grey.” Uncle Eddie mastered an art I wish more of us practiced: simply spreading sunshine.

People are starved for smiles and hungry for joy! And oh, how great it is when we give God’s joy to those who are without a reason for smiling. You know, Jesus did that. He came across countless gloomy people, but he never required smiles of those around him; rather, he gave them his smile. So don’t get angry at the person who acts in a manner that displeases you. Today give him the smile that he lacks. Like the children’s song goes, Jesus wants you for a sunbeam.
