The Gift of Communication
Justin is a bright, happy man who happens to have cerebral palsy. Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and my friend Justin also communicates using a board across his lap with symbols on it. Justin very much wanted to serve somehow in missions, and so his parents signed up to take him on a Wheels for the World trip. While his father helped with the wheelchairs, Justin and his mother spent time with the parents and their children with disabilities who were waiting for help.
Many of them, like Justin, were non-verbal. And that’s when Justin and his mother decided to show his communication board to all the other moms. And when those women saw their children really could communicate using a communication board, oh the tears and the joy. Justin’s parents made 28 communication boards that day for those kids. You know, you can have a ministry like this among people with disabilities. Just visit joniandfriends.org to find out about an opportunity where you, like Justin, can serve!
