University Affiliated Internships HSU El Salvador

July 19, 2024 - July 28, 2024

Two volunteers make adjustments to a wheelchair at a Wheels for the World outreach.

As a Joni and Friends Intern, you will receive training on a biblical view of disability and a theology of suffering with practical application on how to build disability ministries that serve people affected by disability.

  1. Beyond Suffering Beyond Suffering is the flagship curriculum of the Christian Institute on Disability at Joni and Friends. This core text was created to transform the way Christians view God’s Plan for disability and suffering through biblical education on the theology of suffering. First year Hardin-Simmons Doctoral of Physical Therapy students receive biblical education on a theology of suffering, using Beyond Suffering as a core text, during the Spring 2024 semester at Hardin-Simmons University.
  1. Camp Allen Family Retreat Hardin-Simmons DPT students will serve as Short Term Missionaries at the Joni and Friends Camp Allen Family Retreat (June 18-23, 2024), learning what it means to be friends with a person living with disability.
  1. International Missions to El Salvador As a capstone to the internship, students serve people affected by disability through a Wheels for the World distribution in San Salvador, El Salvador (July 19-28, 2024), connecting people with disabilities with the local church. As both a Hardin-Simmons DPT and a Joni and Friends intern, next generation leaders have the opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus – meeting real needs through therapeutic intervention and education, while ministering to the hope found in the gospel of Jesus Christ.

“My trip with my DPT program helped me develop a servant’s heart.” -Intern Joe Eunice
