Your Tossings

Rough ocean waves.

“You have kept count of my tossings; put my tears in your bottle. Are they not in your book?”

Psalm 56:8

During times of anxiety when I struggle to hold fast to the Lord, I anchor my heart to Psalm 56. There, the psalmist strengthens himself by looking to God and remembering, “You have kept count of my tossings.” It helps me to know that God not only notices my struggle, but  he writes it down in a book that will last for eternity.

So I looked up Psalm 56:8 in other translations to strengthen myself further, and I read, “You have taken count of my miseries,” and “You keep track of all my sorrows.” But best of all: “You know how troubled I am.” When your soul is in turmoil, God knows every detail, and he writes it all down so that one day he can recompense and reward you for every single moment you trusted him through all those tossings. So trust him today; God’s going to write it down.
