“…and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you.”

1 Peter 1:4

You may or may not receive an earthly inheritance. Maybe your parents didn’t have much at the end to give you, or maybe the government got most of it. Even so, as a son or daughter of the living God you do have an inheritance. And it is glorious!

Today’s Scripture says this of our inheritance: It “can never perish, spoil or fade,” and is kept in heaven for us. What’s more, we can add to it throughout the course of our lives. Jesus said, “Store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal” (Matthew 6:20).

How do you add to your inheritance? By the way you live, by your faithfulness, by the way you choose to honor God in difficult life situations, by the way you obey His Word, and by the way you serve Him for His glory rather than for your own self-interest.

Lord, just being in heaven with You and in a brand-new body that will never age, fail, or falter is more than I can wrap my mind around. But You have promised even more—an inheritance that will be uniquely mine, and is even now guarded, secured, and waiting for the day I step through heaven’s front door.
