Yielding To The Father

A tree branch against a cloudy sky.

“To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.”

1 Peter 2:21

In the garden, when it became clear to Jesus after he prayed that there was no other way around the horror of the cross, he yielded; and he yielded with confidence and said, “The cup which my Father has given me, shall I not drink it?’ That’s from John 18. That we would yield to the Father’s will like that!

Oh, to embrace God’s difficult plan with intentional thanks; to be able to bear a difficult burden while seeing no relief; to live serenely with a chronic medical condition; to be able to say in such times, “The cup which my Father has given me, shall I not drink it?” All of this is a mighty victory of your faith in Christ. Charles Parkhurst once said, “To…suffer God’s will is…the most sublime Christian achievement,” and I’d agree. There’s no greater faith than trusting God when your cross is hard to bear.
