When Pain is Too Much

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

Isaiah 41:10

Charles Spurgeon lived with great pain; he wrote, “Some pain can be endured, but there is a sharp, nauseating pain that pushes into the very core of our being, boring into the brain and eroding the spirit. For ‘that’ pain, ‘much’ grace is needed. When your head throbs, your heart palpitates, it is natural to say with Jacob, ‘All these things are against me.’ But that’s the best time to remember these comforting words from God, saying to you directly from Isaiah 41, ‘Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’ He ‘will’ keep you from failing… and who knows? Like me, God may well stretch your capacity to miraculously endure that sharp pain.
