What’s Good For Your Soul
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
Romans 8:28
You probably know Romans 8:28 by heart, and how God works all things for your good. But in the midst of a painful trial, we’ll still ask God, “Where’s the good in this?!” The Puritan Octavius Winslow answers this question well. He said, “Calmly stay your faith on this divinely assured truth: that ‘all things work together for good to those who love God.’
Will it not be a good, if your present adversity results in the dethronement of some worshiped idol; in the endearing of Christ to your soul; in the closer conformity of your mind to God’s image; in the purification of your heart; in your more thorough fitness for heaven…or in a revival of God’s work within you; and in stirring you up to more prayer?” These are more than good benefits, they are great! So look for them in whatever trial that you face today.
