What Humility Looks Like
“Now Moses was a very humble man, more so than any man on the face of the earth.”
Numbers 12:3
It is so easy to imagine Moses as a storming prophet with a raised staff, distant and consumed with higher matters. But Numbers 12 describes Moses, the mighty man of God, this way: “Moses was a very humble man, more so than any man on the face of the earth.” Is that a surprise? Well, here’s how Andrew Murray would describe someone like Moses; he said: “Humility is perfect quietness of heart. It is to expect nothing, wonder at nothing that is done to me; to feel nothing done against me.
It is to be at rest when nobody praises me, or when I am blamed. It is to have a blessed home in the Lord, where I can go in, shut the door, and kneel to my Father in secret, and am at peace as in a deep sea of calmness, when all around and above is trouble.” Yes, you can be humble like Moses, and it starts with listening to God.
