The Woman with the Issue of Blood

Mark 5:25-34 

“If I just touch His clothes, I will be healed.”

Mark 5:28 

Twelve years is a long time to suffer. 

For twelve years, this woman endured a physical condition that affected every part of her life. Mark tells us she had suffered under the care of many doctors, spent everything she had, and instead of getting better, got worse. 

The physical pain was difficult enough. The social and spiritual isolation may have been even harder. Under Jewish law, her condition rendered her ceremonially unclean. Day after day, year after year, she lived on the margins, overlooked and as an outcast. 

Yet she refused to give up hope. 

When she heard that Jesus was passing through town, she pushed through the crowd with a simple conviction: “If I just touch His clothes, I will be healed.” 

She did not have a position of influence. She did not have wealth. She did not have strength. Yet she still had faith. 

The crowd pressed in around Jesus from every side. Hundreds of people were near Him. Yet only one reached out in faith. Her bleeding stopped immediately. 

What happened next may be the most beautiful part of the story. Jesus stopped and called her forward. He did not want her to leave with only a healing. He wanted her to leave with assurance. Looking at her, He said, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.” 

Many of us know what it is like to wait. We pray, hope, and trust. Yet answers seem delayed. 

This woman reminds us that perseverance is not passive. It keeps reaching for Jesus even when circumstances have not changed. 

Twelve years of silence didn’t stop her. She pushed through a crowd just to touch the hem of hope. Rest your hope in Him!
