Take Up Your Cross
You know, Mark chapter 8 calls us to “Take up our cross daily, “and follow Jesus.” Because, since Jesus died for your sins on the cross, then taking up your cross means dying to your sin.
Giving up those rebellious habits, getting rid of your “woe is me” attitude while caring for that chronically ill family member. To bear your cross is to put to death self-pity, resentment, fear. In other words, you agree to put to death the sin that bearing your cross often reveals. Oh but friend, take heart, because the cross also means life.
Not just life eternal. But joy and peace, and power, in the very midst of your hardships. Maybe you did not pick up your cross yesterday, or the day before, but you can pick it up today. And be like Christ. Die to the sins that Jesus died for on his cross.
