Self-Control

“Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control.”
Proverbs 25:28
Self-control is the fruit that guards all the others. Without it, love can drift toward indulgence, patience can weaken under pressure, and kindness can lose wisdom. Self-control is the Spirit-empowered ability to choose what honors God over what gratifies the self.
Proverbs paints a vivid picture. A person without self-control is like a city with broken walls. Anything can enter. Anything can invade. There is no protection. There is no restraint.
True self-control is not rooted in sheer willpower. It is rooted in surrender. It grows as we continually place our desires, reactions, habits, and impulses under the Spirit’s leadership. Over time, He reshapes what we want and how we choose.
Self-control shapes how we handle anger, use our words, steward time, and respond to temptation. It is not about perfection. It is about daily dependence on the Spirit who strengthens our resolve.
Freedom does not come from indulging every impulse. True freedom grows where Christ is Lord and the Spirit reigns.
Self-control is not restriction; it is protection.
