Heart Without Words
“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.”
Ezekiel 36:26
This morning when I was praying with my get up girl, I had to stop midsentence. My prayer felt lifeless. It was no sense continuing until I had a serious “talk with soul.” I chided my heart and said,
“Joni? How dare you enter the Throne room of God Almighty with your ho-hum self! Don’t you know who you’re talking to?
Oh, Holy Spirit, please forgive her. Help her pour oil into her prayer. She doesn’t want to be distant and distracted. So, strike a match inside Joni’s heart and help her stir the fires of the Spirit within her.”
I opened my eyes and my get up girl was looking at me… oddly. But hey, the Puritan Thomas Watson said, “The prayer that pierces Heaven is one that first pierces your own heart.” So, from my heart… When it comes to prayer, get your soul engaged.
