Hear the Angels Sing

“Praise the Lord, all his heavenly hosts, you his servants who do his will.”

Psalm 103:21

There’s a good reason why I love that Christmas Carol, It Came Upon the Midnight Clear. It’s the 3rd verse: “O you beneath life’s crushing load, whose forms are bending low, who toil along the climbing way with painful steps and slow; Look now, for glad and golden hours come swiftly on the wing; oh rest beside the weary road, and hear the angels sing.” Look, if you are feeling drained of life as I am, (even at Christmas time) that stanza is pure comfort. Because as weary as we are, God sends angels, ministering spirits to “sing,” as it were over us. Psalm 103 says that angels perform God’s will; they have a God-given role to strengthen you. So, if your spirit needs a lift, grab a hymnal, flip open to “It Came upon a Midnight Clear,” and make it your happy prayer for the holiday.
