God’s Way With Pain

“Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.”

2 Corinthians 4:16

I don’t have to recount to you my… problems: pain that’s worsening with age, decades of sitting in a wheelchair with no use of my hands. And all these… troubles, make me wonder, “Is this ‘extra’ suffering God’s way of disciplining me?” … I don’t know. All I can say is, God is ‘only’ after what is praiseworthy in my life. When it comes his reasons for discipline, I know he has only my best interests at heart; that the purity and holiness of Jesus would shine out of me (and out of you, too). For we are ‘never’ more like Jesus than when we are holy; that is, living ‘rightly,’ or righteously. So if your trials persist, look to God’s loving purposes and do not lose heart. God’s up to something pretty special in your life! His righteousness!
