God Pursues You

“Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

Psalm 23:6

Whenever I feel that God’s forgotten me (as if he could), I recall Psalm 23: “Goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life.” But does mercy and goodness “follow” us? Well, in Hebrew, the verb “follow” actually means to pursue with great energy.

God’s goodness and Mercy are pursuing you, rushing after you. Like (as John Piper said) “like a highway patrolman on a high-speed chase with red lights flashing, racing to stop you and show you First Corinthians 3, that “all things are yours, whether the world, life, death or the present or the future – all are yours, and you are Christ’s, and Christ is God’s.”

Oh, friend, stop and look over your shoulder. Goodness and mercy are pursuing you at high-speed to remind you that everything you could want is yours in Christ.
