Enrich Your Soil
“Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls; all your waves and breakers have swept over me.”
Psalm 42:7
In his parable of the sower Jesus said that “some [seed] fell on rocky places, where there wasn’t much soil.” The seed had nothing to root itself into. The soil was too shallow. And since Jesus taught that the soil represents our hearts…could it be our hearts are too shallow? When you receive fresh truth, is it able to take root?
It should. The Bible calls us to go deep in our life in Christ. It says, “Deep calls to deep.” But just how do you enrich your soil. Well, it starts with putting away a surface interest in God and then fertilizing the shallow layer of your heart with prayer and reading God’s Word. It makes for a deep, roomy heart with rich soil in which God’s truth will take root…and blossom…and bear abundant fruit. And isn’t that the goal for us all?
