Effective Leadership

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”

John 15:5

Christian leaders who rely on their natural abilities (like the gift of communicating or organizing); whatever… ‘natural’ born leaders, (people like me), we set ourselves up for utter failure when we don’t look to Jesus Christ for his help in every decision; or refusing temptation or killing our pride. When we don’t look to him for words or wisdom, we so ‘easily’ fall from our position as leaders. Believe me, in the 45 years I’ve led Joni and Friends, I’ve had to forget ‘everything’ about personal power leading to effective leadership — because confidence, charisma, and chutzpah count for nothing. We’ve gotta remember what Jesus said in John 15; he said, “Without me you can do nothing.” Good advice for leaders ‘and’ for followers. Never lean on yourself; lean on Jesus. Always.
