Eager Excitement
“Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care… Even angels long to look into these things.”
1 Peter 1:10-12
Many artists have been fascinated by the bold, loose brush strokes of Vincent Van Gogh. He managed to convey tremendous energy and motion in a still image.
I thought of his painting Starry Night when I began rendering my own night sky in oils. I wanted to capture a very wild and windy sky, swirling with color and excitement.
Is it odd to say that the sky pulsated with excitement? Well, First Peter says that angels eagerly sought a glimpse of God’s salvation plan at work. Then, Paul in his letter to the Romans tells us that all of creation groans for Christ’s redemption. So perhaps that night, the sky could hardly contain the excitement of that sacred event.
This week, as we celebrate Christ’s first coming, let’s get excited about Christ’s second coming. He’s on his way back, coming in the sky with power and glory!
Oh God, your plan of salvation is one that makes me want to jump up and down and shout Hallelujah! Thank you for not leaving me in my sin but instead making a way to rescue me so that I can spend eternity with you as friends.
