Do Not Be Consumed

“So Moses thought, ‘I will go over and see this strange sight—why the bush does not burn up.'”

Exodus 3:3

In Exodus 3, Moses notices something totally unnatural – it’s a bush that’s on fire, but it’s not burning up. Moses thought, ‘I will go over and see this strange sight — why the bush is not consumed.’” And this is a great metaphor for many Christians you know. They are gracious people who suffer much, yet they are not consumed by their trials. They are like a flaming bush that doesn’t burn up, causing onlookers to ask, “Why is this bush still standing?”

John Newton observed that the strength and stability of these believers who endure great pain yet keep their hearts bright can only be explained by the miracle of God’s sustaining grace. So, friend, if your heart is bright through your suffering, you are a fiery bush. You are on display, causing others to marvel at God’s grace in your life!
