Divine Courage

“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”

1 Thessalonians 5:11

When a Christian friend is hurting from a deep loss or disappointment, you want to offer comfort that eases the pain, right? I still remember friends who comforted me when I first broke my neck. They stuck with me; they sat, they listened, they prayed, and they reminded me of things that were true about my accident. That it was, in fact, no accident at all.

Everything they did forged iron into my faith, because Christian comfort is not when you just listen to someone’s troubles or feel their pain. Christian comfort makes hurting people stronger to endure. It helps you patiently persevere. It infuses into the hurting heart, heavenly hope and divine courage. So, if you want to comfort a hurting friend, gently speak truth into their hearts and they will find their courage in Christ.
