Diligently Seek Him

A single bird flying in a dark and cloudy sky.

“But without faith it is impossible to please him, for he who comes to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him.”

Hebrews 11:6

What would you think of an athlete who showed up at only a few practices before the big game? You certainly wouldn’t call him diligent, would you? Or the scholar who shuts his books after half an hour. Is he a diligent student? Probably not. What about a follower of Jesus? Hebrews 11:6 tells us, “[God] is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”

Or that is, earnestly, sincerely seek him. The Bible describes God as our “very great reward,” but the reward of a sweet, intimate friendship with Christ that satisfies the heart, well, it’s reserved for those who earnestly and diligently seek him. Will you go to any lengths to follow Jesus? Our Savior says, “If anyone desires to come after me…let him take up his cross and follow me.” Today, take up your cross. It’s what diligent followers are happy to do.
