Christian, What Do You Believe?
“Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the Gospel of peace.”
Ephesians 6:14-15
Thirty-eight years ago, my friend Gracie lost her legs, shattered her hips, and broke bones in a tragic car accident. She lives with intractable pain and just had her 97th surgery. I don’t even know how long she’s been in the hospital this time; 38 years of constant stress, surgeries, and trying to get her pain under control. It’s been unending and overwhelming for her and her husband, Peter. I asked him… “How do you and Gracie ‘do’ it?” He said… “You know when you’re in church, before they say the Apostles Creed, the pastor always asks, “Christian? What do you believe?”… And Gracie’s struggles are constantly testing and strengthening what we believe as Christians. Jesus is our only hope.” So, friend, if you’re in a hard trial… I ask, Christian, what do ‘you’ believe?
