Before You Worship
“If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened; but God has surely listened and has heard my prayer.”
Psalm 66:18-18
Recently, I was in bed and reciting to God a Bible passage as part of my worship. But the more I recited it, the more uneasy I felt. I ‘knew’ something was wrong. Then the Holy Spirit tapped on my conscience: I had transgressed against my husband; and I had not asked for forgiveness. And that night… I just could ‘not’ worship God, or even connect with him until I did business with my soul and called Ken into the room. Psalm 66 says, “If I had cherished iniquity in my heart, the Lord would not have listened.” God doesn’t expect you to be perfect, but he ‘does’ expect you to recognize your sin and plead for grace to overcome it. It’s how we grow. So, remember Psalm 66 and before you worship, ask God to send his searchlight into your heart.
