At Jesus’ Feet
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Matthew 11:28-30
Shortly after my diving accident, I had to be taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital for surgery. The ambulance aids pushed my gurney into the lobby and parked it at the foot of a large statue which stood in the center of the rotunda. I looked up from my gurney and saw a massive, marble figure of Christ, stretching out his hands.
At the base of the statue, Matthew 11 was carved into a bronze plaque: “Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” As I gazed at that verse, immediately, fear drained from my anxious young heart. You know, the same can be true for you if you are weary from worry and anxiety. Lay all your loads by faith at the feet of Christ. Feel the heavy weight lift from your heart; ease yourself and allow Jesus to bear it all. He can and he does. Better yet, he’s strong enough to bear you.
