A Worthy Name
“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name…”
Matthew 6:9
I bet you know the Lord’s prayer. “Our Father who art in heaven, ‘hallowed’ be thy name.” In other words, “I revere and adore your holy name.” But sometimes we use the Father’s name flippantly, carelessly, like… we taste those hot dumplings at Cheesecake Factory and exclaim, “Oh, my God, this is so good!” (I feel ‘funny’ even saying ‘that!’). Well, our adversary ‘loves’ to see us denigrate God’s name. (You may say, ‘well, I don’t mean the God of the Bible). But… what other God is there? We Christians have been saturated by the way our culture abuses that precious name, showing that we don’t know ‘how’ to reverence his name. Oh, friend, consider God ‘worthy’ when you put him in a sentence. It reveals more clearly what we believe about him than anything else.…
