A Simple Prayer

“Jesus left the synagogue and went to the home of Simon. Now Simon’s mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever, and they asked Jesus to help her.”
Luke 4:38
When Jesus visited the home of Simon, his mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever. Today’s Scripture reads, “They asked Jesus to help her.” I love that! It was a simple and beautiful request. No fanfare, no extended discussions or wondering whether this or that was God’s will. Jesus was under their roof, and they knew He had the power to help her. And He did.
You may have friends or family members who are struggling with pain, setbacks, and disappointment. But the situations are complicated, and you don’t know what words to use as you intercede for them. Sometimes it’s just plain hard to know how to pray. We can’t go wrong when we follow the lead of Luke 4:38. It’s simple, to the point, and sincere. Jesus is under your roof. He’s there. He knows the needs. He cares. We don’t have to make it complicated. We can simply pray, “Lord, help him. Help her.”
Lord Jesus, today help today my friends or family members who are dealing with illness and other distressing situations. I don’t know all the details, and I’m not sure even how to form my prayers for them. But You know their difficulties right now, every one of them. Shower them with Your help and hope today.
