A Far Better Thing

“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”

2 Corinthians 12:9

What could be better or make you more grateful than… to have great health? Resistance to viruses, a strong immune system, no pain, cancer, no heart issues, or pulmonary problems? Well… all these conditions have plagued me at one time or another, and I agree: there is no greater mercy than to be in good health ‘except’… to be in sickness. Charles Spurgeon said that, and I resonate with his upside-down thinking. Because yes, it’s a wonderful thing to go through life without trouble, but it is a far better thing to ‘have’ trouble and know how to get grace enough to bear it. ‘That’ is what gains you ‘intimate’ access to the Lord of grace. To have trouble and yet know how to put your heart in the best position to receive his grace. Nothing’s worth more than that… even good health.
