We’re Home!

Joni waiting curbside at the airportWhen I fly in from a busy trip, sitting curbside at LAX and waiting for the van is not exactly being ‘home,’ but it’s close enough. And you can see it written on my face: “Hang in there, Joni, in a little while you’ll be home!” My longing for heaven feels like that. Hebrews 11:16 describes it, and so does 2 Peter 3:13 for, “we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness.” So when I sit curbside at a crowded airport, you’ll often find me praying for the return of Jesus. What does that prayer sound like? “Oh Jesus, come quickly to right every wrong and complete all your kingdom promises… bring justice to the poor and oppressed… throw our adversary, the devil, and his hoards into the lake of fire… renovate this poor, denuded planet… save millions of children out of the gutters and brothels… rescue the elderly who are being abused in institutions… release people with disabilities from their suffering… rescue the souls of those still imprisoned in darkness… be crowned King of Kings and Lord of Lords … and may your people celebrate your kingdom for all of eternity!” Amen to that!
