One-Word Prayers
“He will deliver the needy who cry out, the afflicted who have no one to help.”
Psalm 72:12
The other night, I was in bed, up on my side because Ken needed to examine a wound on my back, and I felt so depleted. Pain had deflated my spirits, and with eyes half-mast, I whimpered a few words to no one in particular, saying, “Tired, weary, collapsed, heavy, sad, defeated.” I didn’t intend those words as a prayer; they just kind of spilled out from my soul.
But less than 30 minutes later, I felt this brightness in my chest. I felt different. It was like God answered what I did not even know was a prayer – such an evidence of Isaiah 40:29, where it says, “God gives power to the faint, and to those who have no might, he increases strength.” Man, that’s good news for you today if your spirits are deflated. Psalm 72 says that God will deliver the needy who cry out, even when that cry is sometimes a whimper.
Bring everything to God in prayer, even if all you can manage is one word. He answers you when you call!
