Thursday, July 8th Update from Joni:
Although today, July 8, marks the date my sister Kathy had originally arranged to fly back to Maryland, she’s graciously offered to stay another two weeks — hooray! The last 10 days have been such a blessing as Kathy has helped with my medical needs, assisted with meals and house chores, and given Ken much-needed breaks (he says she’s been a God-send). We’ve enjoyed many cozy moments in the evenings, reminiscing over childhood days on the family farm: building forts out of hay bales and riding bareback to the village of Sykesville to buy popsicles. Of course, we cap every evening with readings from the Word of God (it just so happens our reading schedule has had us in the book of Job for the past two weeks :-). I know the fiercest, most difficult part of my battle against this cancer is looming on the horizon; but for now, God is replenishing our souls with plenty of rest and sweet, family refreshment.
I’m gearing up for our meeting next week with the medical oncologist by learning as much as I can about breast cancer and its cure. However, for every 10 minutes I spend researching, I’m spending 20 minutes reflecting on the character of God — I want to stay in the habit of ‘glancing’ at my problems and ‘gazing’ at the Lord. Please ask God to give us wisdom as we compile questions to ask my doctors… ask the Lord to give them good judgment in designing the best chemo treatment… ask Him for continued healing of my body… most of all, that we keep leaning on Jesus and that our wonderful Father will be glorified at every turn. God bless you for your prayer support!
