Happy Resignation
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds.”
James 1:2
Madam Guyon was a French noblewoman who lived in the 1700s. She was a vibrant Christian who was devoted to her Savior. Her popularity outraged the religious officials and their jealousy led to her imprisonment. For over ten years, Madam Guyon lived behind bars deep within a dungeon, yet her trials inspired many hymns and poems.
She also wisely wrote, “As soon as anything presents itself to your mind as suffering, and you feel a repugnance to it, resign yourself immediately to God with respect to it. Give yourself up to him in sacrifice, and you will find that, when the cross arrives, it will not be so very burdensome, because you had disposed yourself to a willing reception of it.” Obviously, Madam Guyon loved James 1:2. And you should, too. Today, welcome your trial as a friend.
