Spiritual Fermentation

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada and I’m such a fan of The Great British Baking Show, especially when they make bread. I’m fascinated how a little yeast in a small amount of dough can produce a huge loaf. And Jesus, in Matthew 13, says that his kingdom is like that. Spiritual growth, like yeast, takes time. It ferments very slowly until you are changed inside out. Trouble is, we want to speed up our Christian growth. We want to replace fermentation with carbonation; something quick that can be injected into our lives; something that “feels” like spiritual growth, but it just won’t work. ’Cause it’s temporary, thin, and artificial. Like when you try to make dough rise with carbonated soda? It’ll flatten and flatten quickly. So, if you want to grow, follow the ways of your Savior. His yeast will bring growth and change. It may be slow; but it’ll be spiritual growth that lasts.
