The Two Thieves
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and I know you’re familiar with Luke chapter 23. The scene is Mount Calvary, the day our Savior was crucified. On his left hung one thief on a cross, and on his right, hung another. It’s a poignant picture and it has a simple lesson for us. ’Cause both men were suffering, both were struggling in excruciating pain; both men were besieged and broken. And the lesson? One looked to Jesus and the other did not. That’s it; that’s all; it’s that simple. Today, you might feel tormented by chronic pain or some other affliction. Well, like those two thieves, Jesus Christ is at hand. He’s right there, suffering literally alongside you. But the question remains, will you look to Jesus like the one thief did, or will you look away like the other one? Psalm 145 says, “The LORD is near to all who call on him.” Let that be you today. Look to Jesus.
