The Better Question
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. And remember the story of the good Samaritan in Luke chapter 10? A Levite and a priest passed by a wounded man lying beside the road. Rather than offer help, they made a point of avoiding him; to them, the injured man was considered an untouchable. But then a Samaritan came by. And this Samaritan saw this wounded man (a Jewish man) and he did everything he could to help him. And being a Samaritan, he certainly wasn’t obligated. And I like what Martin Luther King, Jr. wrote about this parable. He said that the Samaritan was the godly one, because rather than wondering, hmm, if I stop to help this injured guy, what will happen to me? What will people think of me? Instead, the Samaritan asked, if I do not stop to help this man, what will happen to him? The good Samaritan was good because he reflected the true goodness of our gracious God. And you know what? Every day, we should do the same.
