Lessons From Orchids

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and I love flowersThe other day when my coworker Evalerie was admiring my pot of orchids, she mentioned that hers weren’t looking as great. Well, it’s because Evalerie forgot to “stake” her orchidsYou see, orchids do not naturally grow upwardsIn the wild, orchids often root themselves on trees and then they grow sideways; they grow downward — that’s their natural tendencySo, in order to keep an orchid stem from slumping, you gotta tie it to a stake in order to guide its growth upwardIf not, the weight of the flowers will eventually break the stem. And you know what? We’re not much different from orchids, are we? Unless guided, we tend to go wayward, even downwardIt’s why I love the wise words of Proverbs 3, “In all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” Remember, “stake” yourself to Jesus and your path will be straight up.
