The Way You Live Today

“‘Well done, my good servant!’ his master replied. ‘Because you have been trustworthy in a very small matter, take charge of ten cities.’” 

Luke 19:17 

As we live each day to please God, heaven takes notice, and we have the opportunity to earn eternal rewards. Scripture tells us, “We must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body” (2 Corinthians 5:10).  

The way you live your life on earth today has a direct bearing on your capacity for joy, worship and service in heaven. This is what makes our present life so exciting. It’s a training gym! Your nine-to-five job isn’t merely an occupation; it’s a proving ground for your faith. Take a minute to think through the challenges facing you today, and remember this: Every earthly problem, affliction, task, household chore—and all the relationships that go with them—is a minor league exercise to prepare you for the major leagues in the next life. Stand firm, my friend.  

Lord God, without Your help, without an infusion of strength and joy from Your Holy Spirit, this could end up being just another day for me. I don’t want to spend these hours marking time and waiting for tomorrow; I want to please You now—today. I want these hours on earth to count for eternity.
