Pray for Endurance

“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.”
Hebrews 10:23 (ESV)
I find myself praying often for endurance. My quadriplegia and struggle with pain have a lot to do with it, but so does the command in today’s Scripture: “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering.” In the book of Revelation, Jesus says, “Hold fast…until I come” (Revelation 2:25, ESV). And James writes, “Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because… that person will receive the crown of life” (James 1:12).
Just how, then, do I pray for endurance? I ask God to keep me, preserve me, and defeat every rising rebellion or doubt in my heart. I ask God to deliver me from the temptation to complain. I ask Him to crush the camera when I start running mental movies of my successes. And you can do the same. Ask the Lord to incline your heart, master your will, and do whatever must be done to keep you trusting and fearing Him until Jesus comes. Hold fast! That day will come soon.
Praise You, Lord Jesus, for telling me to hold fast and then giving me the ability to do what I could never do in my own strength. Thank You, Holy Spirit, for coming alongside me, whispering encouragement, and holding my head above water when trials come in like a flood.
