Global Mission Internship: Guatemala (Guatemala City)

March 7, 2026 - March 15, 2026

Theological training: Interns participating in the Spring Break Guatemala 2026 trip will receive training on the biblical view of disability and a theology of suffering through the Joni and Friends Beyond Suffering course remotely prior to leaving.

Practical application: Interns will serve people living with disability through the local church. They will receive hands-on experience in Guatemala while visiting ministry programs and schools that serve people with disabilities and their families or caregivers. Interns will travel to Guatemala City, where they will work with in-country partners such as Bethel Ministries International.

All interns are granted an opportunity to use their gifts and skillsets to serve their team and people living with disability. Whether you’re majoring in counseling, special education, therapy, ministry or are a person with great organizational, photography or writing skills, come ready to unite as a team to bring hope only God can provide for those marginalized within society.

Receive mentoring, which will allow you to use your education and skillsets in the field of disability.
Interns will experience the culture and sights of Guatemala by visiting their local restaurants and shops, exploring beautiful landscapes and sites in the city and surrounding areas.
Cost: $2,800 per student. The cost for this outreach is all-inclusive; however, any pre-outreach vaccination requirements are the responsibility of each individual traveler. Joni and Friends Global Missions and Internships will adhere to country protocols related to health and safety requirements.

*A limited number of scholarships are available on a first-come, first-served basis for individuals in need of financial assistance. If Joni and Friends cancels the event, we will refund or reallocate the donations in accordance with our current policies.

College credit may also be available depending on the requirements of your university.

“This internship has transformed how I view others living with disability. This experience has made me aware of some of the disparities in an international context, such as lack of ADA requirements and wheelchairs… Especially as a future occupational therapist, this experience has helped prepare me to have a heart more of compassion and love for the individuals I help.” Intern – Megan Leong, Messiah University.
