This Thing is From Me
“Let every man return to his house, for this thing is from me.”
1 Kings 12:24 (NKJV)
God often does things that seem so counterintuitive. Like, I was once speaking at a conference and before I was to go on, I’m backstage in terrible pain, hardly able to think straight. It’s like, “God, why now?!” But he had me remember something I’d read the night before in First Kings where he said, “This thing is from me.” It ‘was’ a comfort. So, I begged the Lord for strength and wheeled to the stage. And at that session… God did a powerful work (no, he didn’t take away my pain; but his Spirit moved powerfully in people’s hearts). So remember, for each interruption, cancellation, pain, problem, or weakness, God is saying to you, “This thing is from me.” And if it is from your sovereign God, he’s got a purpose. Often much bigger and better than you’d think.

Who Really Controls the Suffering You Go Through?
Joni Eareckson Tada reflects on the mystery of God’s role in suffering, explaining that while God permits pain and affliction, he does so with a purpose for our good and his glory, offering grace and comfort to endure through trials.
