Conduct That Counts
It’s surprising how many of us are afraid to make a misstep when it comes to God; like, we’re going to get on his wrong side if we do something stupid. So… we try to stay on his “good” side with: “God, notice how well I’m doing? Performing up to your expectations? Are you taking note of my good conduct?” Well, our good conduct does not obligate God to bless us.
Look, if anyone’s conduct means anything, it’s the Lord’s. God doesn’t love you because of what you’ve done for him lately; he loves you because of what Jesus did for you eternally. There’s nothing you can do to earn God’s favor. It’s a gift, not a result of works (says Ephesians). So throw out the scorecard. Jesus Christ made the only grade that counts, so trust in him and not in yourself.
