The Word of Life

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada and the times, they are a’changing.

It is a different day, isn’t it? A different era as we move deeper into 2021. And like you, I’m concerned. I’ve seen a lot, but never have I witnessed such – I don’t know – disregard for the wellbeing of elderly, newborns with disabilities, the medically fragile and even quadriplegics like me. It happens when God is removed from the national conversation. My heart breaks every time judges or lawmakers rule against life. And the long-held dike which has protected the weak is crumbling. When people take God out of the picture, when man makes man in man’s own image, it is the weakest and the most frail among us who suffer the most.

Just recently I was at the pulmonology clinic, talking to the medical secretary, and when I asked her how she was doing, she said that she and her husband want to have triplets. They want to get their family over with and create it all at once. Have their nice-sized family and not be bothered with subsequent pregnancies. And so, they are going through invitro-fertilization, over and over, until the clinician can locate a triplet amongst all the thousands of fertilized eggs. And then they will have their tidy family. Oh, man. Not only is that crazy and crazy-expensive, it shows an utter disregard and contempt for life. For all those fertilized eggs which will now be discarded.

And here’s another example. Listen to Ben who has spinal muscular atrophy; he writes: “Our society has developed a knee-jerk negative response when it comes to respecting life. In a country where healthcare is expensive and inaccessible, death is cheaper. My state does not want to help with my healthcare, but they are happy to offer me assisted suicide.” Stories like these are becoming more common. But it’s 2021. Yet in Psalm 82, God has declared a rallying call to “Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.”

Yet we’re facing a mountain of opposition, aren’t we? But Jesus tells us to have faith and pray. For when we do, that mountain will be tossed into the sea according to Mark chapter 11. It’s an uphill battle, but the team at Joni and Friends and I are committed to follow Christ’s call to faithfully pray for life. And so, Ken and I are using the new “One Year Pray for Life Bible” for devotions. The features and sidebars serve as great guides on how to pray with a pro-life perspective. This special edition of the Bible really helps us apply God’s unchanging Word as we pray effectively for our rapidly changing society. That’s why it’s called “The Pray for Life Bible.” God wants his people to have mountain-moving faith.

Friend, even though the obstacles look insurmountable, God calls us to keep believing and keep praying. The lives of sick and elderly people, the disabled, pre-born children and newborns with disabilities, all their lives are at risk. So to help you in the battle to pray specifically and committedly, pick up your copy of the “One Year Pray for Life Bible,” and join us at the ministry as we pray along with you. And take heart that all proceeds go directly to our Joni and Friends’ programs that always exalt the Resurrection and the Life, the Word of Life, the Way, the Truth and the Life, and the Prince of Life, our Lord Jesus, the Creator of all life! Thank you for having mountain-moving faith together with Joni and Friends where we love sharing hope through every hardship. Find out more about our “One Year Pray for Life Bible at joniradio.org.
