Write the Name of Jesus
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. Nearly ten years ago I was first diagnosed with cancer, and now I’m finishing up my 2nd battle with this disease. Another go-round against cancer could have brought me down, but this little quote by Charles Spurgeon has really bolstered my spirits. He wrote, “I know of nothing in which I could hold Pontius Pilate as an example to you, save in this one thing; he placed the Name of Jesus on the cross… Pilate, the vacillating governor, for once stuck to the truth, and would not be driven from it. So now… whenever you have a cross, write the Name of Jesus the King above it and stand on what you have written.” That describes exactly what I did. And because I constantly nail the name of Jesus to my cross – whether it’s my wheelchair or cancer – the trial of it doesn’t feel heavy or burdensome.
Friend, whatever cross you are bearing today, don’t forget to write the name of Jesus on it and your cross will become his.
