Work and Rest
I’m Joni Eareckson Tada and although I love my work, I need rest. I can’t go too long working without rest or it’s crash time! The disciplines of work and rest complement each other even though they are separate; but in heaven, we will experience both at the same time. Ours will be a vigorous kind of work of which we will never, ever grow tired. Psalm 2 hints at the work we’ll enjoy; it says, “You will rule [the ends of the earth].” Yet with so much ruling and work, exploring, creating, managing, we shall be utterly serene, peaceful, and at rest at the same time. Revelation 7 underscores this for it says we will “serve Him day and night.“ We’ll be completely happy in jobs perfectly suited for each of us. So, join me today in getting prepared by looking at every earthly responsibility, as an adventure… as training ground for that grand day when rest and work will be exactly the same.
