Who Will Speak For God?

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and I’m sure you recall that heartbreaking moment in the book of Job when Job’s wife throws her hands up and tells her husband to curse God and die. Never were sadder words spoken between two people. And what’s really sad is, Job’s wife was unwittingly playing into the devil’s hands, saying exactly what he wanted her to say. She was his dupe, and she didn’t even realize it. But it does make you wonder–on whose behalf will you speak when people suffer? Will you speak for God, offering words that strengthen faith? Words that gently instill courageous hope or persevering patience? Or, will you speak for Satan, and kick someone when they’re already down, inferring that they need to sleep in the bed they’ve made for themselves. Oh, please, don’t be like Job’s wife and speak for Satan. Always, when someone’s suffering, speak for God.
