Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and the other day, I visited a new mall in town, and man, was I uneasyI had to keep looking away from provocative advertisements and sensual postersIt was like Psalm 119: “Turn my eyes away from worthless things …. Now, nothing against malls, but there were many stores that, if I had gone inside, I know it would’ve stirred discontentNow, before you think I am a prude, ask yourself, what are worthless things? Well, simply put, it’s whatever – a magazine cover, a skimpy dress on a mannequin, a suggestive advertisement – even things that say, “Hey, you can have it all.” It’s whatever feeds your temptation, self-pity or self-centerednessLook, you don’t want a dull soulDo your soul a favor and stay focused on things that benefit your lively love of Jesus. Turn your eyes away from worthless things – and you know what they are – and turn them toward Jesus.
