Truly Thankful
Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and I remember those dark, depressing days – those long nights when I was first struggling with my quadriplegia. Having to face the idea of sitting down for the rest of my life; I was so discouraged, so despairing. I thought that God had turned His back on me – that He had become more interested in the prayers and lifestyles of more obedient Christians. But it wasn’t so. It wasn’t like I stepped out of His will when I took that dive; because even that was in His overarching decree for my life. And it’s why 1 Thessalonians 5:18 was written for me. It says, “In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” I have to admit, at first I struggled with the idea of giving thanks, but after more than 40 years in a wheelchair, I can say with certainty that I am honestly and truly thankful – and that’s as much of a miracle as being healed.
