Through a Different Lens

There was a time when memories of that fateful day I dove into the water, brought only depression. Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada and years ago, those memories only reminded me of everything I had lost – I lost hands that worked and feet that walked. But then, I learned to look at my memories the way Jeremiah looked at his. Jeremiah says in Lamentations chapter 3, “I remember my afflictions, and my soul is downcast…” But just a verse later, he says, “But this I recall and I have hope; God’s mercies are new every morning.” You see, Jeremiah learned to remember his afflictions through the lens of God’s Word. So now, I don’t think about all that I lost on that fateful day; I think about what I’ve gained – a stronger faith in God, a deeper walk with Jesus, and a ministry to others who hurt.

So, can I encourage you to look at your hardships through the lens of God’s Word. It’ll be a skill that will serve you well.
