The Way We Comfort

Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada. The Bible makes clear that when God comforts us in our troubles, we are to pass on that comfort to others who are struggling. And I know one thing’s for certain. When God encourages me in this wheelchair, and I want to comfort others, it’s not just a matter of sympathizing with their hard times; no, rather, I can best comfort others when I help them to endure; when I help them be strong and persevere. We best comfort others when we pour courage into their hearts; when we enable them to deal with their own sorrows realistically, and help them pass through it with confidence in Christ. Why is all this so important? Because this is the way Jesus Christ comforts us. JR Miller says that “God does not merely sit down beside troubled ones and feel for them. No, He sits down beside ʼem to make ʼem strong to endure. Oh, friend, today, that’s the way to comfort others.
