The Sting Of Our Need

I have always been a “I can do it” kind of girl. Hi, I’m Joni Eareckson Tada, and even when I was little, they tell me my first words were “Me do! Me do!” The first time I rode a bike I just knew I was balancing it all by myself, until I noticed my father with his hand on the back fender. “Daddy, don’t do it; let me do it; let me do it.” Well, I got my way, and I went crashing to the sidewalk. Oh, we’re such proud, independent types. And that’s why there should be no “me dos” in the body of Christ. When we crash, it may be God’s way of helping us feel the sting of our need so that we learn to depend on others and on Him. You may not realize it, but your all-wise heavenly Father understands that you need help. And the more you recognize that, the stronger and the steadier that you will be. Try on His strength today, and you won’t crash.
